How does colour affect us?

Anyone can open a colour picker and choose something that 'looks good', however there is a lot to learn about how colour affects our decisions. As designers we must continue to study colour and how it affects us subconsciously. Using the web is a great idea as there are some great colour websites out there like Colour Matters and Colour Lovers

Colour Matters has a colour survey which has been collecting results since 1997 and from over 30,000 results these were the most common colour associations. These are interesting results to remember next time your client asks for something sexy or dependable.

Happy - Yellow
Pure - White
Good Luck - Green
Good-tasting - Red
Dignity - Purple
High Technology - Silver
Sexiness - Red
Mourning - Black
Expensive - Gold
Inexpensive - Brown
Powerful - Red
Dependable - Blue
High Quality - Black
Nausea - Green
Deity - White
Bad Luck - Black
Favourite Colour - Blue
Least Favourite - Orange

The Best album artwork of all time

In the age of iTunes and digital music purchases I wonder if one day album design will become a thing of the past? This would be a tragedy with some of the classic album artwork out there. So in an effort to recognise some of the best I'd like to compile a list of the best. What are your favourites?

Here is a place to start Sleevage

Snappy Eight-Eyed monster

Every designer loves a place where they can get their hands (or at least eyes) on well designed products. I stumbled across this online store which happens to be in Denver. You got to check out the gadgets section for my favourite, the 'Oktomat' an eight eyed camera! Check out Shop Composition here

fffinally ffffound

I love this site, it's kind of a high quality photo blog. It's near impossible to become a member and post images as it's an invitation only site. But those of us who appreciate interesting imagery can still freely browse.

Check out ffffffound!

Cool Online Colour from Adobe

This Online tool has been around for a while now but I thought I'd post this in case you hadn't discovered it. It's called Kuler which is an online colour palette creator which you can use in conjunction with Adobe applications.

Will Aussies get REAL content for Tivo, Apple TV etc.

Australian's have long waited for technology to trickle down to our retail markets and often at an inflated premium.

Most Aussies can accept that, I certainly don't mind waiting a little. This delay is not really a problem in fact as we have seen with the 1st generation iPhone waiting for the second version of just about any technology is generally going to give you a better product.

The real downside to this delay isn't with products like the iPhone, it's with content reliant products like Tivo & the Apple TV. Both of these products perform well in the United States. The selection of downloadable content available from TV shows to Movies is impressive not to mention all the other freely available content. However due to licence problems the Australian content available is weak at best.

Smarthouse.com.au has a more in-depth article focusing on Apples lack of content here. Tivo will face the same problems and so will other brands if they can't get strong deals with the networks and movie makers.

Apple says sorry for MobileMe problems

Well after the many problems surrounding the switch from .mac to the MobileMe system, Apple seems to have been worried enough about the damage it had done to it's brand that it actually send a sorry email to subscribers.

Not only did Apple apologise they are also in the process of giving every subscriber a free 30 days of membership which is fair enough in my books.
